Abigail Brierley
Abigail graduated from Newcastle University with a first class honours degree in music. Her time studying at the University has given her a wide experience of playing in different ensembles and musical styles, including orchestral, jazz, and theatre pit bands. As part of her degree, Abigail spent a year studying abroad in Hong Kong, where she experienced traditional Chinese music and also became involved in the Jazz scene, playing a leading role in organising a Jazz Summer Festival which involved playing alongside some of the world’s leading jazz players such as Bob Mintzer. Abigail’s musical life began in brass bands at the age of six, and this continues to be a large part of her playing life, in which she takes part in numerous contests and formal concerts. Aside from her brass band commitments, Abigail is currently playing with the band Dansi, with whom she has spent the summer on tour, playing numerous music festivals and gigs up and down the country. As well as playing the live performances, she is also involved in the writing and recording process. Abigail’s teaching experience started at the age of thirteen, guiding and teaching the younger players in the youth bands. She has taught for Salford Music and Performing Arts Service, and now teaches privately and at the NMC.
